The 2005 Christmas Lights Awards

Each year in the build up to Christmas the Club runs two routes around Warminster Town taking in the Christmas Lights in the East and West side of the town.

Up until now the runners used to give marks out of 10 on the spectacle of lights outside each property.

This year we decided to make it official and present the winners with a prize.......

The 2005 Royal Marines Commando Challenge

The Team (Very Clean)

On Sunday 23rd October 2005 Warminster Running Club entered a team of seven runners in the Royal Marines Commando Challenge team charity event in Devon.

The mixed team, four from Warminster and three from Gillingham Trotters completed the gruelling 7 mile Marine Challenge. The course consisted of a 2 mile up hill road run to the start of the 3 mile cross-country Royal Marines Endurance Course on Bicton Common.

Warming Up (Well Done)

And They're Off!

12 obstacles were negotiated including several narrow pitch black tunnels, steep gorges, the 40m long chest deep water of Peters Pool, the completely submerged 2m long Water Tunnel, the Black Peat Bog, the Stream Wade, the Crocodile Pit (which required team work to climb out of) and the partially water filled Smartie Tube concrete drain pipe finished off with a 2 mile run to the finish.

The team: Rupert Butcher, Angela Collins, Mike Hobbs, Ben Hutley, Chris Pride, Graham Taylor and Wendy Williams completed the course in 1 hour 29 minutes raising £305 for the event's charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
