Club Prospectus

Established 1983

Warminster Running Club is a small friendly Club based at Warminster Cricket Club on the Sambourne Road. Members traditionally come from the town and surrounding villages. Most coming along because they simply enjoy their running however many train for and take part in races ranging in distance from 10k to half and full marathons; which the Club encourages. Most of the club’s athletes participate in both road and cross-country running.

The Club meets on Wednesday evenings at 7.15 for 7.30 pm at the Cricket Club during which members are updated on both running and social events. Amongst our members there is a range of fitness and abilities ensuring that everyone has someone of their own standard to run with. Changing facilities are available and members socialise at the Club bar for a drink afterwards.

On winter evenings training takes place using a variety of town routes, whilst during the spring, summer and autumn, taking advantage of our excellent location adjacent to Salisbury Plain and the Forests of the Longleat Estate a variety of scenic cross-country routes are utilised. On weekends many members get together for a run.

The Club organises one important charity fundraising event annually - the Forest 10 miles in June. The Forest 10 mile race is run around the beautiful Longleat/Shearwater woods. The Club also organises its own Grand Prix series of events for its members. Socially, the Club has an active programme of events ranging the Annual Dinner to occasional skittles nights. The club has close links with Gillingham Trotters running club and annually hosts a summer run and BBQ. The ‘Trotters’ reciprocate by inviting the Club to an annual run and picnic at King Alfred’s Tower, Stourhead.

Club membership caters for a range of abilities and ages, the minimum age being 16. The club not only offers enjoyable training, encouragement and the chance to race as a team, but also a very genuine welcome and offer of friendship through sport. Those interested in joining are very welcome to come and ‘try us’ on Wednesday evenings and then apply for membership.
